Warner Bros. Discovery has recently signed a significant multiyear output deal with A24, marking a notable shift in the entertainment landscape. This deal will bring A24’s diverse array of films exclusively to HBO, Max, and Cinemax following their theatrical releases. This new partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery follows the conclusion of A24’s previous agreement with Paramount Global’s Showtime, which was established in 2019.
High-Profile Films Head to HBO and Max
The deal promises a range of intriguing titles for HBO and Max subscribers. Among these are Sofia Coppola’s much-anticipated biopic “Priscilla,” featuring Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny in the roles of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. Additionally, Sean Durkin’s “The Iron Claw,” starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, will depict the real-life story of the Von Erich brothers, prominent figures in early 1980s professional wrestling. Also included is Kristoffer Borgli’s comedy “Dream Scenario” with Nicolas Cage in a leading role.
Expanding the Streaming Catalog
This output agreement doesn’t just limit itself to new releases. It also includes an array of other notable films like “Dicks: The Musical” by Larry Charles, “The Zone of Interest,” and the 2023 re-release of the iconic “Stop Making Sense” by Jonathan Demme. Furthermore, films like “Love Lies Bleeding” and Alex Garland’s “Civil War” are part of the package.
Additionally, Warner Bros. Discovery and A24 have extended their licensing agreement for A24’s extensive movie library on HBO and Max. This extension will add over 100 titles to the streaming platforms, including Oscar-winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Uncut Gems,” “The Whale,” and “Past Lives.”
A Win for Subscribers and the Industry
Royce Battleman, EVP of content acquisitions for Warner Bros. Discovery, expressed enthusiasm about the deal. He highlighted the addition of award-winning movies and fan-favorites from A24 as a significant enhancement to the HBO and Max platforms. This partnership is not only a win for the companies involved but also for subscribers who will now have access to a richer and more diverse selection of films.
