UK Alt / Ambient producer, Good Spells, gets intense on “In For The Kill” featuring Canadian artist, AN1ML. The latest single from Good Spells continues his signature, experimental, sound but takes it in a new direction with a more densely arranged song and vocals from cohort, AN1ML. The futuristic soundscape is punctuated with classic sounding drums making for an impressive mix of sonics and the subject matter is brought home by the accompanying music video. What seems like a full movie packed into just three minutes, sees the two artists exploring space and witnessing a calamity of epic proportions. We won’t ruin the storyline for you, just check the video for yourself here:

Released via Good Spells’ own imprint, Magic Not Music, via Chester, UK based record label, Subdust, this release marks another chapter in a catalog that is building a real identity, and genuine character of its own. Good Spells seems to be embracing a variety of musical influences but seeking to keep a common strand throughout them all. Dark pop mixed with ambient sound design and ethereal vocals is the sonic fingerprint here. The featured artist, AN1ML, adds a contrasting voice to the track, both delicate and visceral in its nature.

Equally as impressive as the music, is the music video. As mentioned before, cinematic in its nature, we see the two artists seemingly stranded in space, and perhaps coming to terms with a situation somewhat out of their control, or is it?! The mix of 80’s Synthwave aesthetic, neon shades of purple and green meeting gritty, smoke laden atmospheres, makes for an event, almost, rather than a mere visual.

As a package, it seems as though the UK music maker is aiming to create a new world with each and every release. No small feat, considering Good Spells writes, produces and engineers all of his own music. The previous release, “Lost Ones”, by Spells was equally as landmark in its presentation.

Speaking about plans going forward, Good Spells states that he has many songs in the making and work on them continues inside his Airstream trailer studio, aptly called Spells’ Lab! In between doing session work for others, The producer says ‘my music is my focus, above and beyond everything else’.
