Kacey Fifield is Inspired by Life

Kacey Fifield is a singer/songwriter in Los Angeles, California. Her most recent single is entitled “Petty” and is the follow up to her hit song “Selfish”. This recent high school grad is heading to Columbia University in the fall to continue her music education. I recently was lucky enough to interview Kacey about her new single as well as her career.

1. Tell us about your upcoming single.

My most recent single, “Petty,” is a super fun dance song about cutting off petty people and focusing on yourself! I originally wrote it as a more acoustic piece but it developed into this really upbeat song that everyone can dance to.
2. What drew you to that song?
I started writing the song with the chorus, so I think the repetition of “you’re just, you’re just so petty, petty” and the way the rest of the chorus was the inspiration for the rest of the song. The way that petty/toxic people just continuously repeat their actions and never learn was the baseline idea for the repetition in the chorus and it definitely drew me to finishing the rest of the song!
3. Where did you find inspiration for your music?
My life and my friends! I’m always inspired by things that happen to me and my friends so I’m always jotting down lyrics in my notes app and recording short voice memos. Sometimes, when a certain idea sticks, I go back and turn it into a full song!
4. How do you prepare for live performances?
A lot of rehearsals on my own and with my band! On the day of the show, I try to relax by listening to music and mentally preparing. I also usually drink some warm tea for my voice! Other than that, I don’t really have any specific pre-show rituals aside from getting ready to have fun 🙂

5. What do you love about performing live?
I love live shows because it’s much easier to connect with people. There’s such a big difference between listening to a song on Spotify versus actually seeing the artist sing it live, so performing is my opportunity to reach my existing audience as well as new people. It’s so much fun 🙂
6. What do you hope people will take away after listening to your music?
I always want people to be able to relate to my music and feel understood. No one is ever alone in their struggles or experiences, and I want my music to remind listeners of that.
7. What other project do you have coming up?
Working on sooo much new music I’m super excited about!!! I’ve been teasing some of it on my TikTok so take a look there if you’re curious!
