Lissa Mel is an artist, born and raised in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, who later moved to Petah Tikva, Israel, at the age of ten. She spent most of her life in Tel Aviv, where her mother encouraged her artistic talents from an early age, nurturing her creativity and teaching her how to draw realistically when she was just four years old. Growing up, Mel’s love for science and gymnastics was also an essential part of her upbringing, leading her to study physics, chemistry, and biology in high school. However, it was her passion for the arts that eventually took center stage, leading her to focus painting, sculpture, and cinema in college.
Mel’s art is a reflection of her love for physical performance and science. Her work explores the matter at a molecular level, using abstract and figurative depictions to capture the peak moment of performance and mirror the waves of matter at its vibrational state. She uses the human body as a vessel to contain and perform the dance of the natural realm, depicting the dance between the feminine and masculine energies.
Mel’s artistic vision is continually evolving, and she frequently experiments with new materials and techniques. She combines her two passions, painting and fashion, in her own hoodie and apparel collection, launched in 2022. She is represented by two galleries, Centaur Gallery in Las Vegas and Gallery 612 in Santa Monica, currently exhibiting her work.
Mel’s mother played a significant role in igniting her passion for art, encouraging her to explore various mediums and making handmade birthday gifts for her parents. Her passion grew into an inseparable part of her identity, driving her to pursue art as a lifelong endeavor.
Mel’s journey to becoming a successful artist had many challenges. Making the decision to quit her job and become a full-time artist was undoubtedly the most challenging time of her career. With just a month before an upcoming exhibition, Mel had to make a tough call to go all-in into her art career despite having no guarantees of success at the time. It was a leap of faith, as she left everything she had and moved to Los Angeles to focus on her practice. Looking back, it was the best decision she ever made. In the last three years, she has created 167 pieces of art, and her career has flourished. Although it was a difficult decision, she is glad she followed her heart instead of listening to her fear.
Mel’s biggest accomplishment so far is her recent collaboration with fashion icon Michael Kors. Additionally, she currently has the honor of showcasing her art in two well-established galleries, which was beyond her wildest dreams just a few months ago. Having her art displayed at an Oscars party was also a significant accomplishment for her.
Anytime she has the chance to work with massively talented individuals, it feels like a fantastic opportunity and a substantial achievement. In 2022, she launched her own collection of hoodies and T-shirts featuring her artwork, fulfilling a childhood dream.
Mel had to step out of her comfort zone and face numerous challenges to achieve these milestones. This journey required significant sacrifices, including dedicating a considerable amount of time to her practice. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mel was separated from her family and friends for a long period. She took this as an opportunity to fully immerse herself in her art.

It’s important to me to always remain grounded and never lose sight of who I am, regardless of the success or attention that may come my way.”
“Another principle that guides me is to remain curious and continue learning. The world is a vast and ever-evolving place, and I believe that there is always something new to discover. I never want to become complacent in my art or my life, so I make it a priority to seek out new experiences and knowledge whenever possible.”
What advice would you give to aspiring artists who want to pursue their passions full-time?
“My advice to aspiring artists is to never give up on their dreams. Success in any field takes time, effort, and dedication, and the art world is no exception. It’s important to remain focused on your passion, even when faced with rejection or setbacks.”
“I also recommend that artists network and build relationships with other creatives in the industry. Surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals can provide invaluable support, encouragement, and inspiration.”
“In addition, I encourage artists to take risks and push themselves outside of their comfort zones. It’s important to experiment with different mediums, techniques, and styles to find one’s unique voice and style.”
“Finally, I advise aspiring artists to never compromise their artistic integrity or vision for the sake of popularity or financial gain. True success in art comes from being true to oneself and producing work that is authentic and heartfelt.”
