McKenna Camille Enjoys the Spotlight

McKenna Camille is an actress and singer/songwriter who recently graduated from Tisch School of the Arts in New York City. She is celebrating her graduation by traveling around Europe and documenting the experience on her social media. On July 14th, McKenna will be releasing a cover of Billie Eilish’s hit single “Party Favor”. I recently interviewed McKenna about her music career and her upcoming projects. 

1. Tell us about your upcoming single.

My upcoming single is a cover of “Party Favor”! I started singing this song during my sets because I love Billie Eilish and one day, we just decided to record it in the studio! I’m so glad we did because I love the way it turned out! 

2. What drew you to that song?

I am a huge fan of Billie Eilish. I remember being backstage during a show the first time I heard her song “Lovely” with Khalid and it changed my music taste forever. “Party Favor” is one of my favorite songs of hers. I relate to it, I love the Uke, and I’m obsessed with the phone call and the entire set up of the song. 

3. Where did you find inspiration for your music?

I find inspiration all around me. I’m constantly writing lyrics and verses and everything in between. My notes app is full, my journals are full, and you can even find lyrics in the margins of every book I read. 

4.How do you prepare for live performances?

Lukewarm water, maybe some honey and a lot of vocal warmups that I’ve picked up over the years through choir, vocal coaching, and from class at NYU. I am also known to run a couple laps or jump around like crazy right before to get super hyped. 

5. What do you love about performing live?

I’ve always loved performing live whether it’s singing or acting or whatever. I like the spotlight. I like feeling like myself while also feeling like a character in a movie. 

6. What do you hope people will take away after listening to your music?

Not all sad feelings need sad music and not all happy feelings need happy music. 

7. What other project do you have coming up?

I am currently traveling the world and am posting all my travels on my social media. I have a couple short films coming out soon and I’m releasing a ton of music in the coming months!
