Neela Jolene is an actress in Los Angeles, California. She is one of the original actors in the popular Dhar Mann series on You Tube. I recently interviewed Neela on her work on Dhar Mann and her upcoming projects.
1. Tell us about your upcoming episodes with the Dhar Mann series?
I’ve been filming Dhar Mann episodes over the last 2.5 years. I actually am one of the original actors that began in Dhar Mann’s early days. I’ve been in approximately 30 episodes so far playing all types of characters. If you are not familiar with the Dhar Mann show, it is a YouTube channel that releases short (10 to 20 minute) videos that aim to motivate us to be good people who make good choices. The stories are about everyday situations that many people can relate to. Each episode has a moral to the story.
2. What drew you to do Dhar Mann episodes?
I feel so proud and honored to be helping to produce videos with positive messages. It’s so wonderful to be working on projects that really do help to make our world a more beautiful place. So that is why I love working at Dhar Mann studios, aside from getting paid to do what I love to do. Acting is my passion.
3. Where do you find inspiration for your characters?
My biggest inspiration is the amazing lessons learned, in which every character plays an important role. I always give my characters a lot of thought and try to understand their personal experiences that led to their personalities. Even when I play mean bully type characters, I am compassionate for them even though they need to be responsible for their negative behavior. So basically I focus on the character’s
role in the moral of the story.
4. Are any of your characters similar to you?
Well hopefully no one would say the mean characters are similar to me! I’d have to say my roles as a typical teenager are similar to me since I consider myself a typical teenager.
5. Since you’ve been with Dhar Mann for a long time, how would you say it has changed over the years?
The Dhar Mann show grew into a huge success over a very short period of time. In 2020, the channel had 1 million subscribers with 200 million views. Now the channel has 18 million subscribers with 11 billion views. It’s been fun watching a production company grow. But even though the staff, the studio, and the whole process has become much bigger, the job has not changed for me. It remains a super fun
place to work with super fun, hard working and creative people. Also, Dhar Mann himself has not changed and remains true to his mission despite all the challenges he has faced from growing so fast.
6. What do you hope people will take away after watching your performances?
There really are a lot of complicated issues that surround each episode so hopefully people become more aware of the issues. Awareness is the most important step in making positive everyday choices.
7. What other projects do you have coming up?
I played the lead role in an independent film called “House of Karma”. The movie is still in production so keep an eye out for it.
