The hit of the summer has finally arrived! Sickick’s new remix of “Eyes Wide Shut” featuring Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker.
While the song, originally released by Illenium, is already popular, Sickick is excited to be adding his own touch to the project. Regarding the musical direction and style of the remix, he says “I rebuilt the entire track from scratch in terms of production; new progressions, new sounds. I wanted to make sure I had control over all the elements, and it was really important to me to envision a sound that would sound great on large speakers in the large crowds that Illenium brings out to all of his events. Not to mention… a brand new verse by yours truly!”
Sickick is incredibly popular for his remixes. His most recent remix, “Cooped Up / Return of The Mack,” features Post Malone and Mark Morrison and has over 57 million streams on Spotify.
He has also collaborated with Madonna on “Frozen” their 2021 track which gained over 137 million streams.
When asked about the upcoming collaboration with Lavigne and Barker, Sickick said “I’ve always been a fan of Avril and Travis, and when I saw that Illenium did a collab with them I had to jump at the opportunity to put my own spin on the record.”
However, Sickick doesn’t only release remixes. His most recent track was a solo original work titled “Mad World” and he wants fans to be on the lookout for more original content in the future. “I believe I’ve shown off my skills in the remix realm, and I will continue to do them, but now I’m fully focused on showing the world what I can do in the original area of my career and I’m so excited. Everything I’ve learned to this point I’m using to create the pieces of work I’m making now and I absolutely love what is being done in the studio,” he says.
The “Eyes Wide Shut” remix releases tomorrow, July 14th, and will incorporate Sickick’s style of genre-blending. On this specific track, the DJ described how he was able to keep the original sound fans loved about Illenium’s version while making his remix unique. Sickick says, “The chop I created out of Avril’s voice is my favorite part of the song, and it lends itself so nicely to the aggressive drums on the drop I feel. In fact, even when picking the drums on the drop, I purposefully chose more heavy rock-oriented drum sounds as opposed to EDM drum sounds to give a nod to Illenium’s big stage sound. It all came together in a really interesting way in my studio.”
Sickick is excited for his fans to hear the new remix and hopes “energy” is their biggest takeaway from the work. “I would often close my eyes during the production to continuously keep imagining this drop working in front of a 100,000-person crowd with everyone’s hands up in the air. An epic release of energy. I just want everyone to feel happy and lighter after having listened to the track.”
