TAIWAN – During the 2024 Taipei International Information Technology Show, also known as Computex, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang delivered a keynote address that captivated the audience. Huang introduced groundbreaking concepts like lifelike “digital humans” who could serve as nurses or interior decorators, virtual fashion models, and a comprehensive digital simulation of the Earth.
Huang declared that the world has embarked on a “new industrial revolution.” He showcased images of nine humanoid robots and several wheeled robots, asserting that Taiwan will lead the creation of “computers that walk.” These advances are not speculative but are already in development.
The Advent of Generative Computing
Huang emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will revolutionize computing by generating information on demand, eliminating the need for traditional information retrieval. He unveiled four new “AI laptops” and discussed the Blackwell chip, a new computer board component that significantly outpaces Moore’s Law.
In his nearly two-hour presentation, Huang detailed how this generative computing era, which diverges drastically from the 60-year-old principles of traditional computing, is being realized through collaborations with Taiwanese tech giants like TSMC. This era includes AI systems capable of mastering physical laws, enabling robots to learn in virtual environments and operate flawlessly in the real world.
Huang highlighted the development of Physical AIs, robots that learn in virtual simulations of real-world physics. He stressed that the future of automation is imminent, with everything that moves being automated. Companies like Foxconn, the world’s largest electronics manufacturer, are already creating “robotic factories” in Taiwan. Huang’s vision includes the omniverse, a concept representing a significant shift from conventional CPUs to AI-driven innovations.
A Vision for the Future
Huang’s vision for the future encompasses more than technological advancements; it reflects a strategic positioning of Taiwan at the forefront of global AI and tech innovation. His keynote at Computex 2024 not only showcased Nvidia’s cutting-edge developments but also underscored the critical role of Taiwanese collaboration in driving forward this new era of generative computing.
