Dr. Laurie Mintz is a psychologist born and raised in Buffalo, New York. She is a psychologist by profession and a sex educator by passion. As a young girl, she aspired to be an actress, but her mother’s disapproval of this career plan led her to get a degree in psychology. She later discovered her love for the field, and to date, she continues to contribute to the field.
An empath, Laurie has always been curious to study the human mind and emotions. She always had a profound urge to help pull people out of darkness, enabling them to live authentic and fulfilling lives. Using her stellar observational skills, she has been able to apply all that she learned during her academic career as a professor to the psychology of sexuality. During her practice as a psychotherapist helping individuals and couples on general and sexual issues and her teaching experience, she learned a lot about the miseries of women and their sexuality. One of her greatest honors is supporting her clients during difficult times as well as helping them make positive changes and reach life goals.
Dr. Laurie has seen it all in her illustrious career of over thirty years. She has heard the stories of myriad people, but what touched her to the core was the stress and injustice women face in the bedroom. Her heart goes out to all the women who suffer a lack of sexual pleasure, and even sexual pain, in silence.
Her greatest concern area is orgasm inequality, and she believes that it is an important and under-discussed cause of dissatisfaction in women’s lives. She feels both men and women deserve to lead fulfilling and orgasmic lives. And she has taken it onto herself to help women rediscover their sexuality, reclaim it, own it, and use it for the ultimate pleasure in life.
Intending to provide scientifically-accurate, sex-positive information to enhance female pleasure, Dr. Mintz also writes a popular Psychology Today blog. She leads educational presentations and workshops to professionals and lay audiences and often quotes national and international media. Her recent TEDx talk has stirred a sexual revolution and appointed her as the flagbearer of the movement for orgasm equality and women’s sexual empowerment.
Spreading her message, Dr. Laurie has penned down two fantastic, life-changing books published by reputable publishing houses: Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters and How to Get It and A Tired Woman’s Guide to Passionate Sex: Reclaim Your Desire and Reignite Your Relationship. Both the books have studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals showing that those who read them have enhanced sexual functioning.
