Independent artist and entrepreneur Stevieontay Burnz is building a career that brings together music, cannabis culture, and years of experience creating something of his own.
Although Burnz only began pursuing music professionally relatively recently, music has surrounded him since childhood. Some of his earliest musical memories include watching his father play drums and being exposed to his father’s band – an early connection that would eventually help inspire Burnz to step behind the microphone himself.
Before becoming a recording artist, however, Burnz was already an entrepreneur. He founded The Southern Maryland Experience, a cannabis and hemp brand that originated in Southern Maryland before expanding into North Carolina. Navigating an unpredictable and constantly evolving industry taught Burnz how to build independently, adapt quickly, and keep moving when circumstances changed around him.
Now he’s bringing that same mentality into music.
Finding His Sound
Rather than manufacturing a persona, Burnz increasingly pulls inspiration directly from his own life. Records including “Hard to Breathe,” “Midnight on the Dash,” and his newest release, “Wax Wizardry,” reveal different sides of an artist developing his sound without restricting himself to a single subject or style.
Released September 30, “Wax Wizardry” takes listeners directly into the cannabis culture Burnz knows firsthand. Inspired by concentrates, hash, and the craft surrounding cannabis extraction, the record connects his musical identity with a world he’s been immersed in for years.
But Burnz doesn’t intend to be defined solely as a cannabis artist. His music draws from relationships, ambition, pressure, entrepreneurship, and personal experiences just as readily as it draws from cannabis culture.
Building Independently
Burnz has approached his music career much like his businesses: build first and keep building. Rather than waiting for a major-label infrastructure, he’s independently developing his catalog, visual identity, media presence, and audience.
“Wax Wizardry” also marks the beginning of an ambitious new release run. “Married to Mary” follows October 7, “Terp Temple” arrives October 14, and “The Experience” is scheduled for October 21 as Burnz continues developing the broader Burnz and Beyond project.
Each release adds another piece to an identity that’s taking shape in real time.
What’s Next for Stevieontay Burnz?
For Burnz, the goal is bigger than one song or one release cycle. He’s turning years of entrepreneurship, creativity, cannabis culture, and lived experience into something recognizable under the Stevieontay Burnz name while continuing to grow The Southern Maryland Experience alongside it.
The journey from Southern Maryland entrepreneur to independent recording artist may be unconventional, but that’s becoming part of what defines him.
With “Wax Wizardry” out now and more music arriving throughout October, Stevieontay Burnz isn’t waiting for someone else to create his lane.
He’s building it himself.
